ARNOLDS PARK LIBRARY BOARD

The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday , December 9, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.
Present were Joyce Burgeson, Robb Keizer, Mitch Brown, Barb Woodley, Diana Jensen and Library Director, Kara Rice.
The minutes of November 18, 2015 were read. Burgeson moved to approve the minutes. Brown seconded. All aye.
Discussion of closing on 12/24/2015 and 12/26/2015: Rice said the city was going to be closing Christmas Eve at 1:00 and the library is normally open on Saturday for only 2 hours. After discussion, Keizer moved to close the library on December 24th at 1:00 p.m. and to remain closed on December 26th. Burgeson seconded. All aye.
Update on resuming patron privileges: Rice said she had relayed to the patron’s cousin that the board had discussed and agreed not to reinstate library privileges.
Holiday Open House: The city and library is hosting a holiday open house on Friday, December 11th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cookies will be served. Signs have been posted and it was in the newspaper.
On Saturday, December 12th, Santa will be at the library. They are making the Polar Express hot chocolate recipe and showing the Polar Express movie at 11:00 a.m.
The Library Foundation met December 7th and gave a pull down projection screen to the library. The Foundation approved $1800 total for all items on the library wish list, including the cost of the Blank Park Zoo coming for the summer reading program.
2016 – 2017 Proposed Budget: Rice said the insurance proposal is not out yet, so she left the line item at an increase of 12.4%. She also left salaries, FICA and IPERS at a 5% increase, though FICA and IPERS is only going up by the cost of living increase. Some of the numbers on the proposed budget are fluid. The total proposed for the board’s approval was $114,124.60. Following brief discussion, Keizer moved to approve the 2016-2017 budget as presented. Brown seconded. All aye.
Rice will ask for a proposal from the IT person on the “Deep Freeze” installation for the library computers. She will also submit a letter to the city to explaining the budget changes.
Bills through December 9th were presented in the amount of $2,227.13. The Amazon balance is an estimate. There are some credits coming. Rice reviewed some new magazines that have been added to the collection. There being no questions, Burgeson moved to approve the bills as presented. Keizer seconded. All aye.
Rice said there had been discussion of creating a brochure about the Arnolds Park Library. Instead it was decided to create a bookmark about the Library Foundation, listing some things they had recently donated. The staff will stick the bookmarks in books checked out for about a week and place some at local funeral homes for people who may want to donate in memory of a loved one.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 13, 2016.
