The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.

​Present were Diana Jensen, Joyce Burgeson, Robb Keizer, Barb Woodley, and Library Director, Kara Rice. Absent was Mitch Brown.

​The minutes of March 9, 2016 were read and corrected. Keizer moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Burgeson seconded. All aye.

​Rice reported on the council meeting for review of the FY17 budget. The city council approved the small increase to the library budget.

​Re; FY16 budget: Rice talked to Ron Walker on how to correct the numbers on salary and insurance line items. The budget was amended to add $10,000 to the library funding.

​Rice said this week is National Library week. The library is promoting by giving away pencils.

​Business donation letter update: Rice said there has been a good response. Donations such as tickets to Arnolds Park Amusement Park and sandwiches from Jimmy Johns will be used for prizes when spinning the prize wheel. Cash donated will go to the Library Foundation to be used to help the summer reading program.

​Rice has completed the plan for the summer reading program which will be held each Wednesday morning June 1st through June 29th. The first week will be a kick-off. Other programs will be on exercise and nutrition, science demonstrations from the Science Center of Iowa, animals from the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, and Olympics with obstacle courses, bouncy houses, games and fire truck rides.

​Rice said the Olympics day is planned to be in the new City Park near the amusement park. Rice had a visit with Justin Bouse, Principle at Okoboji Elementary School. She will speak to students at school on two different days to explain the summer reading program.

​Rice also reads twice a month to the attendees at Safari Daycare in Milford. She is working with Little Hands Daycare to do the same there.

​Bills through April 13, 2016 were presented in the amount of $3,657.64. Rice reviewed the bills and after short discussion, Burgeson moved to accept the bills as presented. Keizer seconded. All aye.

​Rice commented the library has been very busy. The check out rate in March is 1,000 over March of last year. The library has also gained 30 new patrons.

​Sarah Riley has been working on the library webpage and is going to keep it updated.

​The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
