ARNOLDS PARK LIBRARY BOARD
Wednesday, January 13, 2016
5:00 P.M.

The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday , January 13, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.

Present were Joyce Burgeson, Robb Keizer, Mitch Brown, Barb Woodley, and Library Director, Kara Rice.
Absent was Diana Jensen.

The minutes of December 9, 2015 were read. A correction was noted. Keizer moved to accept the minutes as corrected. Brown seconded. All aye.

Library hours for the staff: Rice said there had been a discussion a few months ago of the library remaining open until 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, with one of the staff staying for the extra hour. Recently there was an incident where a person stopped in just as the library was about to close and continued their stay until long past closing. There was no one in the police office at that time, and the library staff member became uncomfortable and called a family member. After some discussion, the board agreed that Rice should talk with the police chief about different options, perhaps having someone on the police staff stay an hour later or have an officer drive by at 6 p.m. to see if all was well at the library.

New receipt printer: Rice said the library’s receipt printer is making noises and skipping. It is about 10 years old. She presented three options of new printers to consider. After review, the board members agreed on the purchase of a new thermal printer at a cost of approximately $549.00.

2016-2017 Budget: Rice reported that in the final library budget the insurance was decreased by 22%, and the salaries, FICA, and IPERS were decreased to 3%, resulting in a new total of $109,894.00. Rice will attend the city council meeting in February for approval of the final library budget.

Update on “Deep Freeze” software: Rice said she has not received a quote back from the IT person, so decided not to purchase it for now.

New book order reps: Rice said she has been ordering from a representative called Baker and Taylor. They give good discounts to libraries, send brand new books early and offer free shipping. She will still buy from Amazon occasionally.

Foundation book marks: Rice gave each board member a new bookmark that was created to encourage giving to the Library Foundation. These book marks will be given to patrons for a period of time as they check out books.

Bills: Bills as of January 13, 2016 were presented in the amount of $3,029.51. Rice reviewed the bills. There being no questions, Burgeson moved to approve the bills as presented. Brown seconded. All aye.

Keizer moved to adjourn. Brown seconded. All aye.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
