The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.
Present were Mitch Brown, Robb Keizer, Barb Woodley, and Library Director, Kara Rice. Absent were Diana Jensen and Joyce Burgeson.
The minutes of May 11, 2016 were read and a correction was noted. Keizer moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Brown seconded. All aye.
The 2016 budget report: Rice passed out a report of the year to date expenditures. The budget amendment has not yet been added, but there is nearly $4,000 left for end of year expenses.
Ricepresented a graph of the library circulation statistics of FY2015 and FY2016. The graph shows the library has surpassed 2015 circulation with 3 weeks yet to go in 2016.
Library Building Committee: Rice reported that the City of Arnolds Park has purchased the house and property on the east side of city hall and may be able to acquire another property. The city has outgrown their offices and library space. The council has formed a building committee to study options. All departments were asked to give their wish list and ideas to achieve more space. The building committee will use those ideas to determine how much space in needed. They are hoping to be ready for discussion at the July City Council meeting. If a decision can be reached at the meeting, a tentative plan would be to start September 2017.
Summer Reading Program: Rice said that Week 1 was sign up and kick-off. 87 kids attended. Week 2 had 100 kids attending. The fire department was there letting the kids explore the fire truck and gear and learning fire safety. A dietician from Hy-Vee gave a cooking class. The YMCA attended to show kids easy and fun exercises.
Bills for June were presented in the amount of $3,361.89. The extra cost is in part for books for the summer reading program. The Amazon bill is an estimate again. The library paid for a lost book replacement. Rice said she enjoys working with Baker and Taylor to order most books. Following discussion, Brown moved to pay the bills as presented. Keizer seconded. All aye.
