ARNOLDS PARK LIBRARY BOARD

The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.

Present were Barb Woodley, Robb Keizer, Mitch Brown, Diana Jensen, and library director Kara Rice. Absent was Mary Dreier.

The minutes of August 8, 2018 were read. Brown moved at accept the minutes as read. Jensen seconded. All aye.

Summer Reading Program Recap: Rice presented graphs which showed that program participation had grown from 75 attending in 2015 to 172 attending in 2018. Books or chapters read by participants had grown from 1,819 in 2015 to 13,310 in 2018. Rice reviewed circulation statistics for the three months of summer. In 2017 the total was 8,295 and in 2018 the total was 9,249.

Rice then explained the summer reading program expense report. The total expense was $5,506.53. The expenses were paid by monetary donations, direct state aid, and from the Arnolds Park library funds. The report did not include $1,000 in prizes that were donated. This program received a lot of community support.

Rice said that Monday, September 17th there is no school so the library is doing a paint day at Central Park.

Library Safety: Rice presented a draft of a library behavior policy outlining what is expected of patrons when using the library to ensure a safe, comfortable environment. She also made additions and clarifications to the existing circulation policy and computer and internet policy. She asked the board members to review these for discussion and action at next month’s meeting.

Library Board Continuing Education: The board members are to read and study Chapter 12 Hiring of a Library Director from the Iowa Library Trustees Handbook.

Bills: Bills were presented through September 12, 2018 in the amount of $3,251.22. Rice explained the bill for Iowa State University was for the insect program presented at the summer reading program. The Amazon bill was more this month for the purchase of new seasons of movies and series which just came out. Keizer moved to pay the bills as presented. Brown seconded. All aye.

Rice stated one of the library computers crashed. They are getting quotes on a new one.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be October 10, 2018.
